The World it can be.....
Isha dumped her shopping bags in the kitchen and yelled, “For God's sakes, can someone just help me out in this house?” Just to be met with silence. She could hear the TV blaring. She barged into the living room. There she saw him sprawled all over the sofa, oblivious to her. He was busy checking out some reels in his Instagram. With frustration bubbling inside her, she grabbed his phone and threw it.
“What the hell mum,” throwing his hand in frustration. “You are such an irresponsible boy, Hamza!”
Pointing her finger at him, “You are lazy, messy and up to no good.”
“You know what, mum? I am sick and tired of your complaining, I hate you so much, I just can’t wait to move out of this house,” he shouted back, fighting the tears in his eyes, slamming the door behind him as he ran up to his room.
Isha slumped down on the floor and cried, wondering what on earth she had done to deserve such an attitude from her teenage son. She worked hard the whole day on a stressful job, juggling between home and work, she had completely lost identity of herself. Her husband, Salim, worked in an equally challenging job as hers, in a corporate company, yet when he came back from work, he just wanted to put his legs up and watch TV or hang out with his friends.
Sophie tiptoed quietly behind her sixteen-year-old daughter, Sasha, and pecked her on the cheek.
She was busy watching a make–up tutorial on YouTube. “How was your day, honey?” Sophie quipped, sitting next to her not so little girl anymore.
“Hmm... not bad!” Sasha muttered, without averting her eyes from her cell phone.
“How about we go for some waffles? After all, it’s Wednesday night!” Sophie gleamed.
“Daddy’s turn to make dinner?” Sasha asked, smiling at her mum.
“Yes!” Sophie exclaimed, her eyes dancing with joy.
Her husband Ali was a true partner in every way. He respected the fact that she worked hard equally like him to put bread on the table, therefore he took up the responsibility of helping her out at home and with the children, too.
Another possible scenario?
Marriage is a beautiful institution whereby two people come together to make a home for themselves, raise children, live a life together.
In the past, the house was a woman’s turf, whereas the man toiled outside to put food on the table.
That is history! Let’s talk about today's woman, who is independent. Some have reached the space, some flying in the skies or repairing those huge machineries, home entrepreneurs who bake their hearts out, or present the most beautiful culinary skills.
If the Ishas and Sophies of today’s have stepped up their game, then why not Ali and Salim?
One end we have a frustrated woman whose frustrations have had a negative impact on her house and on the other end, there’s a happy household.
Cooking, cleaning and looking after the house are basic
life skills everyone needs to learn, regardless of their gender.
How beautiful it is to see a man sewing his own shirt button and a woman replacing a light bulb
This world is certainly round, but not complicated. It is we who make it complicated. Society, family, cultures all influence our mind. Let's break the stereotype.
Who gets to decide what role one can do? Yes... you!
Life is for living, love your spouse, care for them. Weave the magic!
I just burnt my food while writing this article but I am blessed to have my "Ali" who is helping me soak up the charcoal burnt pans.
Happy reading!
